It’s been a bit of back and forth on the interweb regarding the future possibility of a King Crimson tour in 2009, which has been repeatedly defined as a “West Coast US Tour”, slated for the latter portion of the year. Unfortunately, at this point, it appears that the 2009 KC tour is a no go with some apparent miscommunication from band management regarding scheduling for the individual artists.

Here at KN, we certainly don’t want to place any onus around casually, but we certainly hope that schedules can be fixed up soon!

It certainly would be sad to see the anniversary celebration go on without the mighty Crim!

As has become almost a sort of tradition, Nashville will be the public warmup location of choice for this August’s Crim tour. You’ll find a pair of dates, August 2nd, and 3rd at the Belcourt where the mighty Crim will once again awaken from its slumber.

Belcourt is not a terribly huge venue, (about 334 seats or so), so expect these to go fast!

After Gavin wraps up the KC rehearsals he’s off to play with Porcupine Tree for a few dates this spring and summer before rejoining King Crimson in August. You can find more info on the Porcupine Tree tourdate info at their website HERE. To go along with all of that he’ll be at the Geelong Drum Festival “Drumania” near Melbourne as well as the Green Room on April 29th and 30th respectively.

I wonder how many miles he has on that drumkit? He’s likely due for an oil change!

The second show at New York City is due to the first show already being sold out.

Regular readers here will know that Quodia is gearing up for a tour of the western US, and as such, our friends at the Knitting Factory contacted us yesterday and asked if we’d like to give our readers 5 pairs of concert tickets to the Quodia show coming up at the Knitting Factory, on May 2nd, 2007 at 7:30PM in Hollywood, California.

We said, “Absolutely!” And just how do you win these tickets? All you need to do to enter is, A) Be able to make the show, and B) Be 18 or older to enter in your submission. The show is all ages, but of course, if you are under 18, you’ll need your parents to do an entry in your place.

In addition to the 5 pairs of tickets to give away, we were also able to get discount tickets for the show. Details on all of this, is on the Quodia Concert Ticket Giveaway page. We will be randomly selecting the winners on Tuesday, May 1st, 2007.

And just what is Quodia? Quodia is a multimedia music project created by Trey Gunn and Joe Mendelson which combines spoken word stories, a large video screen, and live music, all generated by Trey and Joe. You can hear more and see some videos over at their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/quodia

We also did a podcast with Trey Gunn not too long ago, which features Quodia and gives much more detail about the project. Check it out here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.

Straight off of a tour with The Bears, Adrian will be joining up this summer with Eric and Julie Slick to tear up the road as The Adrian Belew Power Trio.

So far, 5 dates/locations have been indicated, with more info and dates likely to be revealed soon. Here is what we have so far, culled from Robin Slick’s blog:

June 22, 2007 – Rams Head On Stage - Annapolis, MD
June 23, 2007 – Sellersville Theater - Sellersville, PA
June 24, 2007 – TBA
June 25, 2007 – BB Kings - New York, NY
July 2007 – Tokyo, Japan

If you look at that list, you’ll notice that June 24th is listed as, “TBA”, or “To Be Announced”. What this means, probably only Adrian and the Slicks know, along with who or what will be announced. Our best knowledge indicates the possible involvement with “at least two other megastars”, and that a press release is forthcoming on April 22nd or 23rd.

Sounds like it might be a good idea to block off June 24th on your schedule!

More as it comes…

Over at Pat Mastelotto’s Official Site comes news reminding everyone that TUNER will be in Portugal at the Gouveia Art Rock festival on the opening day, April 21st, 2007. Playing two slots in front of them is the California Guitar Trio, and after, for the last slot of that evening is Isildur’s Bane which both Pat and Markus participated with last year at the Isildur’s Bane Expo. Remember that TUNER’s new release, “POLE”, will be out June 4th this year.

In addition comes word that Pat’s other recent project, KTU has started recording their next album. Pat reports that the US tour was well received, and they have been invited back next year, (2008). We’ll have to see how that works out, but certainly, that’s good news.

Certainly one of the most unique and fresh sounds this author’s ears have heard in a very long time, KTU comprises of Trey Gunn and Pat Mastelotto providing rhythm support and Kimmo Phjonen and Samuli Kosminen with accordian, voice, and related sampling.

After wrapping up a show at the Knitting Factory in LA, they are joining up with the Canadian Music Week in Toronto, Ontario tonight. Filling out the rest of the month are dates in New York, SXSW in Austin, Texas, Chicago, and then two nights in Mexico City. Check out the news section of PatMastelotto.com for more details. Thanks to Evil1603 for the tip!

On April 21st and 22nd of this year, (2007), The Gouveia Art Rock festival convenes in Gouveia, Portugal for two days of music which includes many artists routinely reported on right here!

Here’s a run down of the KN centric artists currently scheduled at the website, be sure to confirm with the festival before making any travel arrangements!:

Robert Fripp on Soundscapes

The League of Crafty Guitarists

All in all, it makes you think Krimson News should have a table setup somewhere over there on the first day, doesn’t it? hah!

The first day is when most of the artists are currently scheduled for, so I would imagine there may yet be some additions to the lineup, which already includes some other very interesting names, the above list, not withstanding.

Billed as “Robert Fripp Soundscapes & The LGC”, the next few months look busy for the LoCG as they embark on a tour of Spain, Portugal, and Argentina! It would be reasonable to assume that Robert will be opening for the League with Soundscapes, but I’ll leave it for others to speculate or correct me on whether he will be joining them on stage.

So far there are a variety of dates, 9 in Spain and Portugal in April, and 8 of which are in Argentina during the last day of May and into June.

Full date and venue listings can be found here: http://www.thelcg.net/index.html

There was no mention of possible dates elsewhere, but this is certainly a wonderful opportunity for those of you who live in those areas to see some true excellence, bar none! Be sure not to miss it if they come your way!

And just what might K3 be?

Adrian recently posted up on his new blog that it would be a project involving ProjeKct 6 opening for the Tony Levin Band followed by the Adrian Belew Power Trio, followed by an encore of Robert, Adrian, Tony, and Eric Slick playing some King Crimson classics. In my eyes this seems sort of like H.O.R.D.E. reinvented for KC fans, and certainly not to be missed!

Apparantly K3 was originally intended to roll out this March, however, it looks like it will be sometime after June but no dates have been released yet. I don’t care what it takes, I’m going to one of those shows!

But there is a more immediate Adrian Belew Power Trio show mentioned, and a very fun one at that! There are two dates currently on the schedule for the Adrian Belew Power Trio: February, the 15th and the 17th. The 15th will be in Cleveland, Ohio at the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame. The 17th looks like the winner to me though as that show will be used to make a live record, (Side 4). That show is set to be at the Southgate House in Newport, Kentucky. I already have some shoes ready for the foot stomping time that will be!

If that wasn’t enough Rhino King news for you, don’t forget that today at some point they are scheduled to release the redesign of the Official Adrian Belew website, so be sure to ping them every once in a while to see if they’ve updated!

Sid Smith has posted several reviews from the [tag]ProjeKct Six[/tag] tour, currently underway as they travel in support of Porcupine Tree for a total of 4 shows. For those not in the know, ProjeKct 6 employs the talents of Robert Fripp on guitar and Adrian Belew on V-Drums.

The reviews from the [tag]ProjeKct 6[/tag] show in Boston, MA., October 5th, in general are all supportive and most are very positive which is great news indeed for those who reside in the path of their upcoming dates.

There are three more concerts which will occur through this weekend, listed below:

● 10/6 – NY, NY – Nokia Theatre
● 10/7 – Glenside, PA – Keswick Theatre
● 10/8 – Falls Church, VA – State Theatre

If we had to make an educated guess, we’d have to assume that a downloadable official “bootleg” from at least one or two of these shows will likely appear over at DGMLive.com in the coming weeks. We’ll, of course, be sure to keep you updated, but for now, check out the DGMLive.com website’s news story containing the reviews, linked below:
