Legendary, and I mean LEGENDARY, (but you already knew this), drummer with an astonishing pedigree of bands over the last 41 years, including of course, King Crimson, Yes, and Genesis, amongst some 19 other bands and artists plus or minus a few, Bill Bruford doesn’t have anything to prove to this writer, he’s certainly one of the greatest.
And he knows he has nothing to prove, at least performance wise, which is one of the reasons reflected for his retirement from public performance, in an article over at AllAboutJazz where John Kelman interviewed Bruford. The indication is that he will do public speaking engagements, and thankfully he will continue writing and recording music, as well as Summerfold and Winterfold records.
In the near future Bill will be doing some public speaking, (as previously mentioned), where he will be promoting his new book, Bill Bruford: The Autobiography, which is coming out in March.
Krimson News congratulates Bill Bruford on his retirement and we wish him all the best!

It’s a sad day when one of rock’s legendary drummers hangs up his concert sticks. I had the good fortune to see Bill Bruford perform with King Crimson three times, twice in 1982 (one show of which was a particulary hot concert at Asbury Park) and with the double-trio at the Count Basie Theatre. I also saw him with his short-lived band B.L.U.E. (Bruford Levin Upper Extremities). Bruford helped to make King Crimson a vital source in prog rock. Their seminal album Red is still an inspiration to many bands working today. The Bruford/Tony Levin rhythm section put many other bands to shame. Their work on Discipline/Beat/Three of a Perfect Pair are models of tightly controlled musicianship. With his departure from KC the band was never the same. Pat Mastelotto was never able to fill the legendary Bruford’s shoes. Earthworks was/is a wonderful band and showcase for Bill’s drumming that helped push the boundaries of jazz fusion. Best wishes to Mr. Bruford in all future recording endeavors.
