Just got a message from a little bird who sang me a sweet sweet song about a very neat project which promises to give Robert Fripp and Trey Gunn a fresh audience that would otherwise be inherently unlikely.
Shadowrun is probably best described by their site as:
Shadowrun is an intense FPS experience that rewards cleverness and split-second improvisation through a unique combination of modern weapons, ancient magic and advanced technology. The combination of ancient magic, high technology and deadly weapons opens up new tactical possibilities for the player. Find yourself behind enemy lines, separated from your team? Teleport up through the ceiling to the roof then glide over to join your teammates. Or maybe use enhanced vision to find your enemies on the other side of a wall, turn the corner, toss a couple grenades, then once they notice you turn into smoke and walk off invulnerable to their weapons. Or just summon a minion to attack them up close while you stand back with a sniper rifle.
Currently set for release by the end of June this year, the game promises something new to the world of video games, the ability for PC’s and the XBox360 users to play games with and compete against each other. This is certainly a cutting edge game in many respects.
So how are Robert Fripp and Trey Gunn involved? The little bird told me that the initial menu screen, or lobby will include some soundscapes from Robert Fripp. This is previously unreleased material, which was not sourced from the Windows Vista sessions, but rather 2 to 3 years ago, which has been massaged and brought to life in this capacity.
For Trey Gunn, there is apparently tracks from him and someone else by the name of Amon Tobin which provide the music when you are playing in the training section of the game.
